Skincare // Morning Routine 2016

Continuing on with my skincare routine, today's post will document my morning skincare routine! In case you missed it, I wrote all about the cleansers I use both day and night here (there are so many that they warrant their own post :P ). My skincare routine is pretty convoluted and high maintenance, but after chopping and changing for a few years, I've definitely found some staple products and a general routine that works for me! I should preface this with some info on my skin - I have combination skin (pretty normal on the cheeks and oily in the t-zone) with my main concerns being acne and acne scarring.

I spoke about all of the cleansers I use in this post, but lately in the morning I've been sticking with the Elemis White Brightening Eventone Cleanser*. Generally in the morning, I look for a cleanser that's going to refresh my skin but also keep it quite mosturised!

Lush Tea Tree Water
I follow cleanser with a toner, and I've been using this Lush one for a solid while now (over a year!) and this is my second bottle (the big one, and I'm almost finished!). I really like this toner for a number of reasons! It's very refreshing and definitely balances my skin - it rids my skin of any excess oiliness but doesn't leave it dry. It of course contains tea tree which is an effective ingredient for fighting acne. It's very diluted in here so it's gentle, but I do feel like it helps overall to reduce redness and soothe and prevent breakouts.

Elemis White Brightening Even Tone Lotion*
This is a complementary product to the cleanser I use and they go pretty well together! This is a "lotion" which is somewhere between a toner and a serum. I usually use a small amount and pat it into the skin. It absorbs really quickly and doesn't have any immediate effects really, but I do feel like it's slowly helping to fade dark spots and even my skin tone. You'll notice that's a trend throughout my routine! This product is super gentle though and I find to be very complementary to the rest of my routine, without overloading my skin.

Is two brightening serum-y products in the morning overkill...? I've been using this guy also for a good while. I've been through two minis and am halfway through this full size. At first I didn't really think it did much, but having used it consistently long term - I think it has helped! Like the previous product, it's super gentle and fast absorbing. It has quite a watery texture and is great for the morning as it really doesn't interfere with anything you put on top.

So...I'm addicted to facial oils. I go through them like water if my empties posts are of any indication. I'm high maintenance and use a different one for morning and night but really it's just because I'm trying to use the products I have! I used to only use oils in the morning when my skin was really dry (like in winter) but I use them daily now, year round. I only use 3 or so drops depending on the oil and I find they sit fine underneath makeup. My skin has balanced out and I don't get really greasy throughout the day...more like a natural dew. ;) This particular rosehip oil from Rosehip Plus is really lovely. It absorbs well and is very moisturising. Definitely helps my skin look plump, feel smooth and hopefully is helping even my skin tone too!

I swear I mention this thing at least once a month! It's a holy grail for me and I don't think I could live without it! It's a thin treatment lotion that helps diminish breakouts as well as prevent them. The [+] is supposed to help fade scars too (at this point I don't know what's fading what but HEY they're working! (slowly but surely)).

Benzac AC 5%
Another holy grail! I never found a spot treatment that I really loved (I liked the Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion a lot but I think my skin got too used to it), until I started using this one! It definitely reduces breakouts overnight, and depending on how bad the breakout is (whitehead or cystic), they're usually completely gone between 1-4 days. Definitely the most effective spot treatment I've used - plus it's not drying at all for me!

Okay, so I have three moisturisers that I rotate through depending on the day. I told you I was high maintenance :P

This is the moisturiser I opt for if I'm wearing makeup. It has no SPF so I will usually use a sunscreen on top, or the combination of SPF in my primer and base will be enough. I've spoken about this product at length on the blog before and it is definitely a firm fave! It's very creamy and moisturising, but I don't find it heavy at all! I find it absorbs really well and leaves the skin feeling plump and nourished. Plus, it smells divine!

A slight newbie to my collection, but this is the moisturiser I reach for when my skin is feeling particularly dry or lacklustre. It's a very thick consistency that is packed with shimmer and sheen (though it's not overbearing!). It gives a stunning glow to the skin and works well under makeup if you're after a dewy look. It also has SPF 15.

Asap Moisturising Daily Defence*
This guy has SPF 50 (UVA and UVB protection) so I use it if I'm not wearing makeup, or if I'm going outside. This definitely has a sunscreen feeling, but it's not at all thick or greasy - though I do find it a bit too thick for underneath makeup. It's very mosturising and dewy looking on the skin but it doesn't make me any oilier than usual throughout the day. It has a number of other skincare benefits as well and my skin seems to be really happy after I use this for a few days straight (generally means I'm not wearing makeup either which could be a factor)!

Stay tuned for my nighttime skincare routine coming soon! Have you guys tried any of these products?
