Collective Haul // October 2016

So, it's been a hot minute since I've done a haul on here. I think the last big makeup purchase I made was the Too Faced Sweet Peach palette (which was back in May!), but my last actual haul that I did was in April. Must say, I'm pretty proud of myself for managing to stick to a spending ban - no matter how loose it was! I actually haven't been all that tempted by makeup recently actually. It's not that I've become disinterested in makeup, because trust me, I still love it! I just think I've become numb to all the HYPE! and NEWNESS!, and I also think that I've become quite content with my makeup collection. I only really consider purchasing something if I really love it, it's gotten good reviews or is somewhat unique in my collection. That being said, let's dive in!

Like everyone else in the country, I made a Colourpop order during their free international shipping promotion - it was seriously a deal I couldn't miss out on! I still didn't go HAM though. I tried to pick up somewhat "unique" colours because, after all, that is what Colourpop is known for!

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Echo Park
I've been wanting to try the ultra satins for ages since they've been getting really good reviews! From what I hear, they are very pigmented liquid lipsticks that dry down to a satin finish. I've worn Echo Park once and I really liked it. It does dry down somewhat, but it's definitely not transfer proof and retains some moisture so it's not at all drying. Echo Park is a really pretty peachy-browny-nude shade, heavy on the peach.

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lips in Times Square, Kapow and Cheap Thrills
The ultra mattes have gotten quite mixed reviews, so I was never really keen to try them (and yet here I am with three). I'm not expecting to love them (if I have low expectations, maybe they'll blow me away???), but I saw a few unique shades that I really liked that I thought would be worth it even if I didn't like the formula. Times Square (oddly enough it says "Time" square on the box and tube...) is apparently very similar to Jeffree Star Celebrity Skin which I've always wanted to try but it's too hard to get a hold of. Just a good ol' browny nude shade. Kapow is quite out of my comfort zone but the type of shade I've been seeing on others and wanting to try myself! It's a dark greige-brown shade with slight purply tones. Not gonna lie, I dig it - but I'm yet to try it on! Cheap Thrills is more of an overt purple shade with slight grey tones. I've been really into purple lips, especially the cool, dusty ones!

Colourpop Lippie Stix in Pitch (matte)
Another trend I've been tempted to try is the super dark brown lip. Colourpop have a few brown lip products on offer but I ended up going for Pitch. It's a very dark red-toned brown. It seems relatively wearable but I still need to try it on! I've already tried the Lippie Stix and the matte formula is definitely my favourite! Pigmented, creamy and not too drying.

Colourpop Super Shock Shadows in Weenie (pearlized) and Wattles (satin)
The shades of shadow Colourpop have is quite overwhelming! I ended up with two that I thought were relatively unique. When I first saw Weenie, I really liked the look of it but didn't want to buy the whole quad (Kathleenlights' second collab), but then they started selling the shades individually which I appreciate! Weenie is a super pretty ROSE gold shade, heavy on the pink! I love the pearlized formula, it is so creamy and metallic, it's ridiculous! I also saw Kathleenlights use Wattles in a tutorial and I thought it was so pretty and unique! It's a super soft, dusty pink with the slightest, almost blue shimmer. Not sure how well this will show up on me but hopefully it works out!

Colourpop Creme Gel Liner in Overboard and Zulu
Unfortunately, as you can tell, my Zulu is broken. When I first got it, I heard it rattling in the tube. The stick wasn't actually broken, but it fully came out and was loose. Then, when I opened it to take these photos, part just fell out! Not sure whether it's worth emailing their customer service about? It's still semi-useable - any advice? Anyway, the formula of Zulu is a lot stiffer and not as creamy as Overboard which has some shimmer to it. I was tossing up whether or not to even get Zulu since it's such a bright turquoise that I wouldn't wear often, but it looked so pretty and unique! Overboard is a deep bronze shade with copper shimmer through it - gorgeous!

Ciate London x Chloe Morello Beauty Haul
When I first saw Chloe's video to launch this product, I wasn't terribly interested but as I saw swatches and looked at the palette and kit properly, it really grew on me. The selection of shades in the palette is really great - I applaud her choices! It's got the perfect mix of warm and (wearable) cool tones, mattes and shimmers, neutrals and colour and light, mid and deep tones. Honestly, it's just so wearable and versatile! The kit also comes with a mini mascara and liquid lipstick in Pin Up which is a gorgeous deep warm, berry nude shade. I was a bit hesitant about the palette though as I hadn't heard too much about Ciate makeup and had never tried it before. The initial reviews seemed promising though, and I put my faith in Chloe who is actually one of my favourite Youtubers, if not my favourite Australian Youtuber. I haven't yet used the palette on my eyes, but it does swatch really nicely. The majority of matte shades are soft and pigmented, only a couple are a little sheer or patchy. The shimmers are quite dense and creamy feeling and also swatch really nicely but the lighter shades are almost a little sheer and like an intense sheen? Just nowhere near as intense as a Makeup Geek Foiled shadow, for example. It also comes with a navy faux leather clutch which I actually quite like and will use! All up, the kit costs $70 which I think is really great value for a 15-pan palette, a clutch and two minis!

Anyway, this kit is now sold out on the Mecca website, unfortunately. However, you still may be able to find it in Mecca Maxima stores or if you are really desperate you might be able to order it directly from the Ciate website. It was a bit of a struggle getting my hands on it. I went to my local Maxima in the late morning of launch day and they hadn't gotten any in, so they took down my details. I left, walked all the way to uni and as soon as I get there I get a call from them saying they just got the shipment in - but there were only three (what a measly amount)! I then ummed and ahhed about whether I should skip my lecture and go back.......which I ended up doing hahahaha. No regrets though because I got the LAST one and now it's sold out soooo I think I made the right decision :P Right?!

Cover FX Custom Cover Drops  in G30
I finally bought these! If you guys remember, these were on my US wish list but I ended up skipping on them because I could get them online for cheaper. Well, I was in no rush to get them, but Sephora recently had a 20% off everything sale, so I picked them up! They came to around $57 which is relatively good compared to other websites (PM studio is similar or cheaper, but you need to pay shipping), but really quite expensive for what's only a 15mL foundation! That being said, these are highly pigmented drops that you are supposed to mix with other products. I got the shade G30 which is a pretty good match. I originally thought I would be G40 but I've been underestimating how pale I am, and figured if G30 was too light, I could mix it with my too dark foundations - which is most, let's be real. Anyway, excited to get using these!

Max Factor Face Finity All Day Primer
My holy grail primer! I've pretty much finished my current bottle and needed to repurchase ASAP. I ended up getting it 30% off from Big W since Priceline has stopped selling Max Factor, right? Anyway, at least I didn't have to pay full price cos that's esspensive. Worth it though - definitely helps my makeup last longer, keeps oil at bay and doesn't dry my skin out.

So that's that! I don't expect I will be hauling "regularly" but there are definitely a few items on my wishlist from holiday releases and what not that you might see popping up!

What have you guys been buying lately? Anything from the Colourpop or Sephora sales?
