I haven't done a dedicated post on the face masks I've been using in literally years, which is a crying shame because they are seriously an integral part of my routine! Over the past month or two, I've had a bit of an influx of new masks that definitely deserved a mention! In addition to these, I've been using my old fave Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask which is my moisturising must! I got on to my second tube too so y'all know I love it. I tend to do a clay mask twice a week, and a moisturising and exfoliating mask once a week. Seems like overkill, but what can I say? I find masks to be the most effective product in giving quick, significant results! Anyway - let's dive in!
L-R: Aesop, Kiehl's, L'oreal, Lush |
Aesop Parsley Seed Cleansing Masque
Guys, remember when this mask (pardon, masque) was all the rage?? There were a couple of years there where this was everyone's favourite and I've been lusting after it ever since. When it comes to clay masks though, I try to only have two on the go at a time because they have the tendency to dry out. So, it took me ages to finally get this! My friend gave this to me for Christmas - thanks Yas - and I've really been enjoying it! It's definitely on the more gentle side in terms of clay masks, which I think my skin has grown to like. Long gone are the days where I used Origins Clear Improvement which dried like cement on my skin! (I mean, that one's still a good mask but I've since found better!). It has a much thinner texture and dries on the skin but without inhibiting mobility :P The effect is thoroughly cleansed skin that isn't at all dried out. Since it's more gentle, I can get away with using it a little more often and I think it would be suited to pretty much every skin type. It terms of being clarifying, it is and it definitely helps heal any spots and just give me refreshed, clearer skin but it won't get deep down in there and get rid of all the JUNK, if you know what I mean.
Kiehl's Rare Earth Deep Pore Cleansing Masque
I use the Aesop one day out of the week and the Kiehl's on another because it's a slightly more intense version. It basically does all the same stuff (I'm just being excessive having multiple clay masks) but is perhaps a little more clarifying. It's not as gentle but it still doesn't dry like cement on the face or leave the skin feeling terribly dry. This one is a really great option and I've already mentioned it in my last favourites, so you guys know I like it! Neither of these clay masks are going to fix skin issues instantly, but with consistent, regular use, they definitely help keep my skin clearer and cleaner which is amazing!
L'oreal Pure Clay Mask Exfoliate and Smooth
I was super excited to see L'oreal launch their range of face masks because even though there are plenty of clay masks available at the drugstore, I feel like they're all very same-y and there isn't a tonne of variety. These have been getting some amazing reviews and if you grab them on sale (which is super frequent), they're a serious bargain! I opted for the exfoliating one (with red algae) because I didn't have anything quite like this and the other two didn't seem as unique. This one has a clay base so it's going to be clarifying and cleansing like every other clay mask, but it also has "finely milled apricot seeds" which, as you're washing it off, exfoliate the skin. After use, my skin is refreshed, looks brighter and feels smoother. I really enjoy this one and definitely recommend this range if you're starting out with masks or want good quality at an affordable price!
Lush Catastrophe Cosmetic Fresh Face Mask*
I've tried a few of Lush's face masks and I really enjoy them. The fact that they're fresh means they have really great natural ingredients and it just gives a very wholesome experience! That being said, I also hate the fact that these have a very short shelf life, something like two weeks but shhhh I keep them for longer :P I was lucky enough to attend the Blogger's United Australia birthday event at Lush where they told us all about their face masks and skincare products, and made up a batch of Catastrophe Cosmetic and Cupcake. It was awesome to see it being made as you literally know every single ingredient going into it! I've actually only used Catastrophe Cosmetic once so this is a bit more of a first impression. It contains blueberries, calamine and various oils to help calm and soothe the skin, as well as moisturise. After my first use, I found my skin looked a little fresher, brighter and more even. I definitely think it helped reduce my redness! That being said, it was more of an instantaneous effect than a lasting one. I find with Lush masks you get the best results with continued, regular use so I'll keep going with this one, but I like it!
Face masks are definitely trending right now and there are definitely a few fads going around - peel off and bubbling face masks? Yet to try those but for now I'll be sticking to my basics!
What face masks have you guys been loving and using lately?
