ColourPop Reviews #4

It seems like Colourpop is the only brand I ever talk about on here anymore...but can you blame me? I'm still thoroughly enjoying their products, and I'm here to share the batch of reviews from my last big order! As I say in basically every post, I just can't get enough of Colourpop! They have such a wide range of products, colours and finishes, and all at super affordable prices. The fact that they keep pumping out new releases doesn't help either! I told myself this would be my last order for a looong while though...

A Melted Merry Kissmas

I didn't get too many Christmas sets this year, but I was lucky enough to receive the Too Faced Melted Merry Kissmas Liquified Lipstick Set as a secret santa gift at a bloggers Christmas party (excellently organised by Dani and Kate - thanks gals!). I figured I should pop up a review sooner rather than later seeing as this set is limited edition - but if you like what you see, the featured shades are all permanent! I should say thank you to Maddie whose secret santa gift this was part of, but also to Sarah who actually stole this gift from me but let me keep this portion of it because she saw how devo I was haha. She's a sweetie ;) So technically, my real secret santa gift was a soap giftset from Lush which was also lovely. That santa remains a secret though - but thank you too! Anyway - let's dive into the review!

In The Spotlight // MAC Cosmetics

I'm resurrecting a somewhat "old" series today, and coming at you with a brand spotlight post! I haven't done one of these in a while and I'm not sure why because I still have a lot of brands in my collection that I need to go through and document! Anyway, today I'll be walking you through my MAC collection. MAC is probably the brand you think of when you think of makeup. It's arguably the brand with the widest range of products and shades, and one that I'm sure all of us have had an obsession with at some stage. It was only when I was pooling together my MAC products for this post that I realised I actually have quite a few of their products, but there are only a few that I use really often! Like most brands, there are products that I love and hate from them!

Shaken, not Stirred

You guys might already be sick of seeing the Lancome Juicy Shakers as they've been everywhere lately, but I figured they deserved a post to themselves! I mean, look at how adorable they are! The Juicy Shakers are a fresh take on the OG Juicy Tubes which I remember collecting as a kid (they came with GWPs that my mum and grandma got) and I used to think I was da shiz. Looking back, they were terribly sticky and sooo shimmery! Definitely outdated now. The updated version are essentially a lip oil - not sticky at all and super wearable! I purchased Freedom of Peach (of course) myself, but I was also lucky enough to win Bohemian Raspberry (A+ name) in Mel's giveaway. Thanks so much Mel! Anyway, let's dive into the review!

Colour Families // The Rusty Reds

You guys may or may not know, but I have a bit of a thing for colour coordination - especially when it comes to makeup. I like the whole monochrome thing of keeping all elements of a makeup look in the same colour family - it's highly doubtful you'll see me mixing warm and cool tones! So, the idea of starting somewhat of a 'series' on documenting my makeup collection through colour family sort of came naturally. I mean, here's an OG post of my colour coordinating makeup skillz. So, hopefully I keep this series up because I do love organising shiz by colour. The first fam I thought I'd showcase are the rusty reds aka super warm, orangey, terra cotta reds that have been super trendy of late, and are perfect for the current autumn/winter weather! Shockingly enough, I thought I'd have more products but turns out it's basically all lip products. Any eyeshadows I thought would fit are a bit too orange, though using various shades in the Morphe 35O palette can achieve a rusty red eye look. 

Sigma; Summed Up

Today I have another brand spotlight post for you all, but with a witty-ass title ;) The brand in question is Sigma and the nerdy side of me wanted to incorporate some maths (sigma in maths means the sum of .... whatever you want really). Anyway, if you got it from the get go, ILY but also I don't miss maths at all - BITCH BYE. A little while ago I was accepted into the Sigma Affiliate program which was suuuper exciting for me, and they very generously sent over a welcome pack with a range of amazing goodies! This is my first experience with Sigma and I must say, I'm impressed!

The Quintessential Mauve Lip

Mauve lips have had a massive surge thanks to one and only, Kylie Jenner. Deeper mauves, cool toned browns, browns in GENERAL have all become incredibly trendy. There are a plethora of those lipstick shades out there now! I have a few products to share today that fit right into that family, the Bare Minerals Marvelous Moxie Lip Trio in Mauve. The set itself is limited edition but the three full size products it contains are permanent! It includes their Marvelous Moxie lip liner in Thrilled, lipstick in Break Away and lipgloss in Smooth Talker. I'm already quite the fan of their lipsticks, so keep reading to find out my thoughts on their other two lip products!

Oh. My. Gloss.

CHANDLER BING?!???!! Had to do it. Anyway, if you didn't gather from the title, today I'm reviewing Rimmel's new Oh My Gloss! lip glosses! As you guys know, I'm pretty fussy when it comes to glosses - they CANNOT be sticky! Keep reading to see what I thought about the shades Glossaholic* and Snog*.

In the Spotlight // Napoleon Perdis

A type of post that I love reading, but have never done myself, is a "brand spotlight" post, where I showcase all of the products I have from one particular brand. Looking at my collection, I actually don't have a lot of products from many brands, brand loyal I am not! I do, however, have a few products from Australian brand, Napoleon Perdis, many of which I haven't properly reviewed on the blog. Now is their time to shine!

Baby Bites

Bite Beauty is a brand of lipstick that I've wanted to try for ages! Made from food grade ingredients, their lip products are pretty much good enough to eat! Makes sense really, since they are going on your lips and where else does you lipstick go other than into your mouth? I managed to snag this little travel kit from Natural Supply Co which contains a few mini sized products; the Lip Shine in Sante and two Luminous Creme Lipsticks in Fig and Pepper. 

LUMA Cosmetics by Jess Hart

Happy Aussie day peeps! What better way to celebrate the national day than feature a few products from Australian born and bred brand; Luma! Luma was created by Australian supermodel Jess Hart and focuses on using natural ingredients (free of nasties like parabens, synthetic colours, mineral oils and synthetic fragrances) to achieve the natural, glowing look. These days, I definitely think less is more with makeup, and we've all been really gravitating towards that natural, minimalistic makeup, which these Luma products are perfect for. I also really love that they list on the packaging in percentage how natural the product is. Keep reading though because as much as I love the concept, I don't think they quite deliver to the fullest extent...

Provoke the Lips

Now, the Rimmel Provocalips* have certainly been making the rounds in the blogosphere, so when I was offered the opportunity to trial them - I couldn't say no! There have indeed been mixed reviews about them, but one thing that everyone seems to agree on, is that they are damn long-lasting. Keep reading for my two cents...

Disappointing Products #2 // Lips

Sorry to put a damper on your day peeps, but I'm back at it with the disappointing products! You can check out the first installment here, but today, it's all about the lips. I didn't intend on featuring so many lip products, but it just so happens that because I have so many, I'm very easily disappointed! Like last time, there are a few hyped up products in here...but hear me out!

MAC Lip Conditioner

In my review of this, I pretty much detailed my dislike of it. To sum it up, I basically felt like this barely nourished my lips at all. I felt like I was constantly reapplying because it would sink in super quickly, but my lips didn't feel much more hydrated. To top it off, I'm fairly certain this gave me a lip rash!

EOS Lemon Drop with SPF 15

Now I really did love the Summer Fruit flavour when I used it, however there is just something off about the Lemon Drop one. It doesn't feel overly moisturising (it's okay), but the kicker is that it almost feels a bit gritty? Like the balm itself doesn't feel completely smooth, which is such a shame because this is the only one with SPF in! Also, not the hugest fan of the Sweet Mint one either.

Nuxe Reve de Miel

I've already done a full review of this so do have a read, I explain my disappointed-ness quite explicitly there! Basically I feel like the formula is very thick and doesn't actually absorb into the lips but more so sits on top and almost sets over the lips, creating a layer or film. Said film then needs to be scrubbed off the next morning. Annoying, and it didn't even make my lips feel uh-mazing.

Kit Cheek & Lip Tint

I didn't really have high hopes for this anyways (it was a hand-me-down from my sister), but especially on the lips - it really sucks. At first application, it looks pretty dece! Goes on well, gives a nice berry stained look. But then, it absorbs - like really quickly - and the colour pretty much disappears. I layer it and layer it, each time the colour gets patchy, sheer and eventually my lips shrivel up like a dry, pale sultana. Beautiful imagery, I know.

Face of Australia Lip Quench Moisturising Lipstick in Lychee Crush

My distaste of this lipstick has been well documented here on da blog. Let's sum it up - horrible scent, tastes foul, too creamy that it settles/bunches/looks uneven and the shade is too pale and pink for my skintone - making me look like I'm meant to be a participant of a zombie walk - you know the ones.

Maybelline Baby Lips in Pink Punch

Oop - Alert! Alert! Hyped up product coming at ya! Kay, so these American/now UK Baby Lips have been so hyped up over the past few years, and I got my hands on a couple of them early last year - they featured in one of my early hauls (Wow - throwback!)! I've already given Cherry Me away - that one wasn't so bad. But Pink Punch is actually really pigmented for a tinted lip balm! Theoretically that sounds really good, but the formula is very creamy, meaning if you apply too much it can settle and gather, and if you rub your lips together, it seeps out of the lip line - yucky. The shade is a very hot, almost neon, cool-toned pink which totally clashes with my warm skin tone.

NYX Mega Shine Lip gloss in Beige

"Ahaha, worst name EVER. It's clearly PINK not beige!!!!" - Every beauty blogger ever. (had to do it). ANYways! I'm fairly certain I probably got a dud tube because mine is SO sticky and gloopy I can't stand to even apply it to my lips. It's terrible. However, when I swatch these glosses in store, they don't seem sticky at all! Plus everyone loves them for not being sticky....The shade is really pretty though. A very muted PINK shade. ;)

Rimmel Apocalips in Stellar and Celestial 

I've also mentioned a few times on the blog why I don't like these but pretty much, they are very glossy, VERY pigmented products that don't. set. down. So they stay wet on the lips, which leads to transfer central. Don't even try to eat with one of these suckers on. You will get it on your chin/teeth/general facial area. Oh, and the food you're eating.

MAC Lipglass in Frozen Lame

This was a limited edition shade, but my qualm isn't really with the shade itself. Though, it's really nothing special - pretty much clear with silver shimmer. Really though, I find the Lipglasses way too sticky for my liking, and for such an expensive price tag, not worth ma time.

Sorry if I was very rambly and hyper in this post lols, I finished my last exam for the term today (Tuesday when I'm writing this) and I'm finally freeeeee (until next term...)! So I'm feeling a little cray. Hope you guys liked this post though! Let me know your thoughts on these products! 

Potent Paints

I was recently lucky enough to win an Instagram giveaway held by Ulta 3, the prize featured the full range of their Lip Paints plus matching nail polishes. Now, I'm a big fan of Ulta 3, out of my nail polish collection I own the most Ulta 3 polishes and I've also reviewed a couple of their lipsticks which are really good! I was very excited by this release but was scared they were going to be similar to the Rimmel Apocalips (ie. a wet, sloppy mess), but have no fear because they're much better!

The Lip Paints are packaged similarly to the Australis Pout Pastes; a squeezy tube with a doe-foot applicator, making the product very easy to apply. The tubes are colour co-ordinated making them very easy to spot in your collection. I really like the typography on the tubes, I think it's super cute and not tacky at all!

Basically these are another liquid lipstick type product - colour and longevity of a lipstick, with the ease of application and shine of a gloss. So, as you can see, these babies are incredibly pigmented in one swipe, one layer is generally all you need. You can also sheer them out by applying a dab and blending over the lips. The texture is not thick, gloopy or sticky at all, but not uber thin or wet either. It's somewhere in the middle that allows it to be applied and spread easily over the lips, yet not be wet or transfer that easily (they still do a little though). They have a slight sheen but not very glossy, it just gives a comfortable feel on the lips. 

I was actually quite surprised by the staying power of these lippies! It still looked perfect after 3 or so hours, and it survived through lunch! I always have my friend do a lip check (after all, what are friends for) and she was like "It actually still looks really good! Good job whatever lipstick you're wearing!", so there ya go, good job Ulta 3! I didn't need to reapply for a while after, but I did get a bit of wear through the centre of the lips after another couple of hours, but it's not that noticeable as they do stain the lips slightly. They're very easy to reapply though!

They also claim to be enriched with Vitamin E making them moisturising. I wouldn't particularly say they're moisturising, while they did leave my lips a tad drier, it wasn't anything considerable. They are still extremely comfortable to wear. They also have a peppermint scent which I quite enjoy - it smells like Arnotts Mint Slice!

Eclectic Orange is a bright, true orange. It's not very red-leaning making it a little less wearable. On my very yellow skintone, it can tend to look a little pumpkin-y, but still nice!

Radical Red is a nice, true red, if anything a tad blue-toned.

Expressive Fuchsia is a hot pink that is slightly fuchsia-leaning.

Extreme Pink is an incredibly pale, cool-toned bubblegum pink. Probably my least favourite shade because it doesn't sit very well on my skintone.

Manic Mauve is the perfect mauve for the cooler seasons. It's a very wearable, slightly berry-toned mauve.

Loud Purple is PURPLE, but dang I love it! It's definitely eye-catching and quite a grape-y purple/violet shade.

What I also love about these is how easy they are to mix and blend colours. I've found this is my favourite way to use them - there is an abundance of colours you can create! Makes some of the less wearable colours a bit more wearable. These are a few of my favourite combos:

Overall I've thoroughly been enjoying the Ulta 3 Lip Paints. They definitely surpassed whatever expectations I had of them, and I think I'll definitely be reaching for them whenever I get the tingles for a bold lip. They are absolutely amazing for the low price of AUD$5.95 and I fo sho recommend them over the Apocalips.

Caramel Concoction

The Maybelline Colour Elixirs have been getting a lot of love in the blogger community, and I figured I should try one out for myself, especially because I have become a lover of a good non-sticky lip gloss. I bought the shade Caramel Infused because I have a caramel obsession, seriously just ask my friends, I go cray when faced with a tray full of toffee. No but really, this was actually the only shade that appealed to me from the Australian shade lineup - I wish they'd brought over Breathtaking Apricot! Anyways, keep reading for my review!

Packaging wise, it's pretty dang adorable, but also small. The tiny amount of 5ml is housed in a squat, rectangular tube that deceivingly looks like a lipstick. It is very practical though, with no extra bulk. The doe foot applicator is petal shaped and very plush feeling. It's almost ribbed and furry looking but feels nice and soft on the lips, and applies the product easily and precisely.

The Elixir claims to provide the colour of a lipstick, cushiony care of a balm and glass shine of a gloss. I'd have to agree fully with those claims. My particular shade has decent pigmentation but still a light sheer translucency. It is very close to my natural lip colour though, the bolder, brighter shades are definitely more pigmented and opaque, and almost stain, from when I've swatched them on my hand. I'm not exactly sure that it is as nourishing as a lip balm, but it does feel cushiony and balm-like on the lips and not at all drying, sticky or gloopy. The shine it gives is lovely, not overly glossy but more so like a hydrated shine. It's also very smoothing and makes the surface of the lips look rather perfected. The gloss does have a scent, one that I rather enjoy. I can't pin point it but it's light and unoffensive in my opinion.

Caramel Infused, like I've said before, is pretty much the perfect my lips but better shade for me! It is a rosy-mauve shade with a slight brown tinge, but it also has a bit of peachy warmth thrown in. It's a really pretty shade that is perfect for everyday and will most likely go with pretty much any makeup look.

Overall, this has become one of my most reached for products because of it's very comfortable feel on the lips, lovely shine and easy, everyday colour. They retail for AUD$17.95 which I think is ridiculous because it's tiny! It's one of the most expensive in Maybelline's lip product lineup. I definitely think that they are preying on the hype these have received worldwide. As much as I love the product and am happy I picked up one, I definitely won't be buying any other shades unless a really good sale comes around.

The Lip Product Addict Tag

A few weeks ago I was tagged by the lovely Sheri to do the Lip Product Addict tag. If there's one thing that I know I am, it's a lip product addict! This tag was also created by two of my favourite youtubers - Estee and Amelia - so I really wanted to do it! Keep reading for my answers...

1. Favourite balm/treatment?

My favourite lip balm at the moment is probably the Nivea Lip Butter, this one is in the scent Vanilla & Macadamia which smells delicious. I really like this lip balm, for no particular reason other than I think it's pretty moisturising for every day and it helped out when I had itchy lips. It's not super intense though, so don't expect it to heal extremely chapped lips!

2. Best eye-catching red?

In all honesty, I really don't wear red lipstick often so I don't have many to choose from. One red that I do have that is pretty bright, relatively cool-toned as well is the Jordana Twist & Shine Moisturising Balm Stain in the shade Rock n Rouge. It's very pigmented for one of these balm stain types, it has a slight sheen to it and it does stain. Not much more I can say really!

3. Best luxury and best drugstore?

I actually didn't have a clear cut answer for this one, I don't have any crazy, ultimate, absolute favourites from either category, so I just chose two lipsticks that I really like. For drugstore, I chose the L'oreal Nutri-shine lipstick in the shade Pink Nude. The formula is similar to the Revlon Lip Butters, only better in my opinion. The colour is a really pretty nuded peachy-pink. For luxury, I chose the Estee Lauder Signature Lipstick in the shade Soft Amethyst. The formula of this lipstick is really nice - it's super pigmented, but quite moisturising and sits very comfortably on the lips. The colour is also beautiful - a super wearable purple. 

4. Best MAC lipstick?

I only have four to choose from, but I'd have to say the definite winner is MAC Morange. It's a beautiful striking red-toned orange, that is super wearable. It's bold and bright, with an amplified formula, so it is very pigmented yet not drying at all.

5. The most disappointing?

I'm going to steal Sheri's answer here, but hands down, Face of Australia Lip Quench lipstick in the shade Lychee Crush. Firstly, the colour is horrendous on my skintone. This shade was getting RAVES, and it swatched as a really pretty pale peachy-pink nude but on the lips, it made me look dead and washed out. Also, the formula is terrible. It's too creamy that it slips and slides and settles into lines and it smells terrible. The reason it looks like I've used my whole tube is because I tried to redeem it as a cream blush. It worked for a while, but it didn't last well on my cheeks. My second disappointing product is actually the Rimmel Apocalips. My review of these was probably a bit lenient but I had a bad burger-eating experience with the shade Stellar. Whilst eating it somehow got all over my face, like chin, teeth, burger - it was a mess. This was a good few hours after application too. These don't set down and stay sitting on top of the lips - easily transferable.

6. Liner - yes or no?

I'm gonna go with a straight no on this one. I just can't be bothered! I'd only ever use liner if I had a special occasion - wanted my lip to last extra long, etc, etc you know the gist. But I've really only used a liner once or twice! I do have a few of the Essence Lip Liners which I do really like - they're creamy and you could even use them on their own.

7. Best gloss?

I could have answered this with a few different products, but chose to stick to the NYX Butter Gloss of which I have in the shade Peaches and Cream. This gloss is so lovely! It feels balmy on the lips - a slight thickness but nothing sticky. Amazing pigmentation, smoothing gloss and delicious scent. What more could you ask for?

8. And something extra!

I decided to chuck in the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets, I acquired these recently and have been loving them. They are matte lip creams but don't dry like paint on the lips. They're matte but not at all drying, with a soft feel and staining effect, making them extremely long wearing. They do still transfer a little though. I have them in the shades Peach Club and Frambourjois.

Sandy Peach

We're probably all sick of the chubby lip crayon thing by now, pretty much every single brand has a range out. While I haven't succumbed to that many, there was one that I desperately wanted from the first time I saw it online - Bourjois Colour Boost Glossy Finish Lipstick in Peach on the Beach. It took a little while to get to Australia, but the real issue was it being perpetually out of stock at every Priceline I went to. It was only at the beginning of this year that I FINALLY got my hands on it - at full price too - so I thought, it better be worth the wait.

And boy, it was. First things first (~I'm the realest~) though, the packaging. Pretty standard for any chubby lip crayon, twist up, the outer colour matches the inner, although - it has that silver writing that tends to rub off pretty quickly.

The formula is definitely rather unique, in my opinion. I've heard it as being described as a gloss in crayon form, which I'd have to agree with. It lives up to its name and is quite glossy - not overly so, but it gives a nice shine, and no stickiness at all. It's very emollient and melty, after just one use the side of my nub had worn down quite a bit. Also, if too much is applied it can tend to build and gather - you know when you rub your lips together and it creases a bit? Yup, so it's best to go lightly with it, or blot slightly. You don't need overly much though as it's pretty decently pigmented. It's very comfortable on the lips and is pretty moisturising I'd say. The lasting power is okay, definitely not 10 hours, though Bourjois always tends to overestimate their products' wear time. The glossiness wears down pretty soon after application, but the colour hangs around for another few hours or so, even staining the lips. It requires reapplication after eating though, you tend to be left with the ring where the middle has worn off.

Peach on the Beach sure is a stunner of a shade. It's basically like an almost neon peachy-pink (but still super wearable, and not overly bold or bright), ma faaave. Once the products settles a bit on the lips, and after the gloss has worn down, the colour transforms a bit into a slightly deeper, bright warm pink-peach, there isn't that much variation though. The stain left is even slightly darker again.

So overall, I'm a fan. The shade is super amazing and totally up my street, the formula is really nice and the lasting power is pretty dece for such a glossy product. It retails for AUD$15 at Priceline. This was a slightly seasonally inappropriate review, but hey I don't conform to seasonal rules (plus it's still quite warm and sunny here!), but I will be getting a ton more use out of it once Spring/Summer rolls around again!

Matchy Matchy

There's something about colour coordination that I love, in moderation though. Matching accessories, clothes and especially makeup! Once I started wearing coordinating lip and cheek combinations, there was no going back. It's almost OCD how much I need the lip and cheek shades to be at least in the same colour family - it's even better if my nails match too ;) These are just a few of my favourite lip and cheek combinations, where in some cases, it's like each product was made for one another! Just so I don't keep repeating myself down the way, all of the combos compliment each other so well, and really bring a look together!

Maxfactor Miracle Touch Creamy Blush in Soft Pink and NYX Butter Gloss in Peaches and Cream

These two products are basically as pink as I'm willing to go on any sort of a regular basis. They're both that really pretty medium pink with quite warm undertones - an almost peachy pull. I love the formulas of both of these, and the combination has a really brightening, fresh-faced effect.

theBalm Instain Blush in Toile and NYX Soft Matte Lip Cream in Antwerp

There is something about this particular shade that is rather unique in my collection. Different to my typical peachy-pinks, they have a deeper, more reddish quality that almost gives them a strawberry type tinge. While the lip is more of a bold option, I feel like the blush perfectly accents it.

This is the somewhat "my lips and cheeks but better" option - neutral and natural but not too nude. I've professed my love for the Tarte and Clarins combo already here, but I thought I would throw in another option, which actually looks to be better suited. Natural Beauty is a bit more of a peachy-brown-mauve with a sheen that gives a lovely glow to the cheeks. Either of these is perfect when I want more of a 'nothing-y' cheek and lip!

Want a fresh Autumnal duo? These are your guys. Sadly they're both discontinued - oops. Sorry! I really wish they weren't though because together they are perfect for getting the cooler, more purply-plum tones for A/W without going super dark and vampy. The blush really is pretty much the perfect accompaniment for any purple/plum/cool lip colour.

I thought I wouldn't get much wear out of the leftmost shade in this BYS trio because it is pretty much a straight up orangey-peach, but quite contrarily, depending how light-handed you are, it goes hand-in-hand with bold shades like Morange. You might think it's orange overload, but actually with a more subtle cheek it really pulls together the look.

Gee, I have a thing for corals. The blush shade is a really great coral that has the perfect mix of pink, orange and red, making a great shade to go with basically any coral. I think colour-wise it best matches Audacious, but really it looks amazing with either lippy! Again with a bold lip (and the cray pigmentation of this trio), a light hand is advised!
