Bridal + Bridesmaid Makeup

A couple of months ago, my sister got married and I had the honour of doing her makeup! When my sister first suggested that I do her makeup, I was very hesitant...Me?! Doing your makeup on the day that you'll forever look back on!? But what if I screw it up! I'd like to think I'm pretty good at makeup on myself, and on other people, but hey, I ain't no makeup artist. That being said, I have done both of my sisters' makeup numerous times in the past, and they both seem to really like the finished results. So, the more I thought about it, the more I warmed to the idea. Why spend hundreds of dollars on a makeup artist when I can do it for free? I mean, we all know I have all the products and the fact that I could do a bunch of trial tests on her was appealing to the both of us - and trust me, we did a bunch of trials (she's fussy!). Eventually though, we settled on this look which thankfully, she really liked and was super happy with. I also had to do mine, my other sister's bridesmaid makeup and my mum's so to say I was a bit rushed the morning of is probably an understatement, but luckily everything turned out amazingly!

The only things I didn't really have in my collection for my sister were a good primer and foundation duo. Firstly, my sister is a couple of shades deeper than me so none of my foundations suited her, and she really wanted a matte finish so it would really last on her oily skin. After a makeup application at Mecca, she settled on the Hourglass duo which wore really well - she only had to blot once throughout the day and night. The Hourglass foundation is such high coverage but thankfully blends super easily and doesn't look cakey or thick on the skin. I bronzed with NARS Laguna and used a combo of the lighter two shades in the KVD palette to contour. Tarte Exposed is the perfect blush for a natural pinky-nude shade and I think it suited the eyes and lips excellently. Contrary to everyone else in the world, my sister really isn't into the highlighted look so I used the Laura Mercier baked highlighter which is wonderfully subtle and natural but gives a really pretty glow. I don't actually own this (I wish I did!), I borrowed it from the maid of honour! :P And of course, I finished everything off with the UD spray to help everything last a bit longer and help settle the powders and matte finish.

Fairy Drops Scandal Queen Quattro Mascara
Mecca Cosmetica Plumping False Lashes, Ardell Medium and Short Individual Lashes (not pictured)

In our trials, my sister and I tried a myriad of different eye looks - halo eyes, warm and cool toned - we really went through the ringer. Eventually, we settled on a pretty basic golden-bronze lid with a smokey outer corner. The star of the show is Creme Brulee which is all over the lid - it's so stunning and probably one of my favourite shades ever. In the crease I have some typical transitions like Salted Caramel and Milk Chocolate, and the outer corner is deepened with Semi Sweet. I also used some Cyprus Umber from the ABH Modern Renaissance palette because it's so deep and rich and really added dimension to the look. I did a baby wing with the Mary Kay Gel Eyeliner and thank the lord it all went smoothly! I am not great at eyeliner even on myself so this was a bit of a gamble haha. The Fairy Drops mascara held up really well even through tears! I used an assortment of individual lashes as the general consensus is that they're the best for bridal looks - if you cry and one falls off it's not a big deal, as opposed to a whole strip popping off. The Mecca Plumping lashes were little bunches (maybe triple the width of a typical individual) which really did help plump the lashes. The Ardells were for further volume, length and a fluttery winged out look.

LIPS //

We went back and forth on the lip colour for quite a while. She wanted something more than a nude, but not bold so we settled for Patina which was pretty much the perfect fit! It's a very wearable mauve shade that really goes with everything. This combination lasted extremely well too - and didn't come off in the kiss with the groom! :P I don't think she touched up at all actually because it's not terribly different to her natural lip colour and fades really well, but I think it would've only needed one touch up throughout the night.

And time for my bridesmaid makeup! I'm sorry I don't have any nice pictures of my makeup - what can I say, the focus wasn't on me! :P

We were wearing rose gold jewellery, so to complement that I went for a rosey-bronze eye look. Grandstand is one of my favourite eyeshadows ever and it just looks so stunning on the lid! I used some warmer tones to transition and deepen the outer corner, but I also incorporated some slight purple/mauveish colours with Jet Setter and Burlesque. I carried this cooler mauve colour through the face and lips with Cameo Pink blush (very natural and subtle) and the Essence lip combo. I thought this cooler, greige-mauve colour really suited our sort of charcoal-blue bridesmaid dresses. I really loved the finished look, and again I'm sorry I don't have a photo but I'm sure you can imagine it :P

So there we have it - Shiwashiful Makeup Artistry is open for bookings! Just kidding...but I mean if you're willing to pay I'll be willing to work ;) Though I was nervous to do it, I was really happy with the final look and thankfully my sister was too! I may be biased, but I thought she looked so beautiful on the day! :')
